Pattern Perception

To help us further understand photoshop, our assignment for this week was to take inspiration from a victorian pattern and replicate the pattern (somewhat) by using an urban landscape. This is my replication of the pattern, to the best of my ability right now.

My response to "Computing in Architectural Design" Article by Yehuda Kalay

My opinion of computing in design today, after reading “Computing in Architectural Design” by Yehuda Kalay, is that computers are tools that definitely have a demand in the design world. Relating the article to our life in studio, I would have to say that before this semester we mainly did all work by hand. Regardless of the hours it took us in studio, the majority of us did our assignments without the aid of computers when it came down to the actual drafting and drawing of the project. After reading the article, I think that computers enhance the design world by reducing the time it takes for various tasks, by assuming certain dimensions and reacting thusly, automatically catching mistakes made by the architect, and by having a virtually flawless memory. As for the part of the article that was referring to how cyberspace is now the “there” and place that we all seem to go to for information, entertainment, and communication, I agree. I think, therefore, that computers and technology are the future. Because of the advances made so far in technology, most of us feel completely lost on a daily basis if we don’t have some form of it in our lives (cell phone, email, etc.). In conclusion, after reading this article, I’m very excited to complete this class because it will only enhance my skills as a designer by being able to use and understand computers more efficiently.
